American Motorcycles Norway

This is what apppears to be a pretty new 1928 Harley Davidson (first year with front break, 1929 had the twin headlamps). Even the handpump on the left forkleg is still there.
What is the purpose of the lever in front of the gearshifter???
The rider and owner of this bike is Svein S. Wammer in charge of carrying post from Oppdal to Sunndalsøra.

    Do you think the lever could be used to advance the spark? I know it isn't standard, but you won't find out rigger skis standard either...
    (I can't tell if they attached to his feet or to the kick stand) But I LOVE this picture! How Cool does it get from here? I can't wait to see more from you guys here in the Cold White North...

    Hi Chessie, thanks for your comment. I think that lever is actually for hand operation of the clutch. This is as the 25 and older had a lever for hand operation and I think when some got into newer models motors they added this as to stay with the habits they had.
    The skies that where used commonly back then when motorcycling was an all year issue are connected to the bikes frame with hinges and springs. The springs would lift them off the ground if not stepped on. You could actully stand on the skies and allow the bike to bend between the skies (not touching the seat with your but), the bike would allso have a snow chain on the rear wheel to get a better grip.

    How cold can it get! My personal best is at a winter meet back in 85 when we had 40 degree C below on Saturday. But that is another story.

    Sverre, I have you on my radar big time now. I've learned some stuff today that will stay with me for a long time! Amazing about the out-rigger skis!

    Sverre, I'm confused as to how you would operate both levers at the same time? Clutch and shift lever on the same side too? (I'm not doubting you, I'm just not very imaginative, someone always has to show me)
